Elisa Grehl, AVA

Framed as a fictional advertisement for an AI girlfriend, AVA adopts the visual language and persuasive tone of commercial media to reflect on how intimacy is being reshaped through technological simulation. When a relationship with an AI creates a space in which every fantasy is fulfilled without resistance or contradiction, fundamental questions arise: How does this affect our understanding of closeness and emotional connection? What happens when intimacy without boundaries, without “pushback,” becomes normalized? And does this shift the expectations we place on real human relationships?

The film further questions whether concepts such as love or emotion can meaningfully exist when they are not reciprocal, but instead simulated by a system designed to perform affection. Through its advertising aesthetic, AVA invites viewers to reflect on power, desire, and the implications of outsourcing intimacy to artificial systems.
